(Morning Consult, 3/16)

Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) said Wednesday the Environmental Protection Agency, which is responsible for issuing ethanol volume mandates, has to issue mandates that are lower than required by law, indicating that the Renewable Fuel Standard is ‘unsustainable in today’s reality’. […] ‘The current RFS mandates have caused the nation’s fuel supply to reach the blend wall of 10 percent ethanol incorporated into the fuel supply,’ Gosar said Wednesday during a joint House Oversight hearing of the Interior and Health Care, Benefits, and Administrative Rules subcommittees. ‘This blend wall barrier is the highest level of ethanol blended into fuel that can be sustained in the current American automobile market. If any percentage higher than this is used in vehicles, serious engine problems can occur in older cars or void warranties in newer models. This creates a serious problem for consumers.’
