Former House Natural Resources Committee Chairman Richard Pombo endorses Dr. Gosar

PRESCOTT, ARIZONA – Today, former House Natural Resources Committee Chairman Richard Pombo endorsed Dr. Gosar stating:

“I support Dr. Paul Gosar because he is a fighter against the President’s policies that have stifled energy production on public lands, have locked-up massive amounts of our land through executive fiat, have attempted to seize our water, have issued an onslaught of new regulations that are killing energy jobs, and have had a backwards strategy for managing our nation's forests that has failed the West and placed Western communities at risk.

As you know, Rep. Gosar sits on the important House Committee on Natural Resources, that I was Chairman of from 2003 to 2006, and he’s worked hard to fight for important federal water, land, and energy policies that will make the West, a better place to live, work, and recreate.  As a son of a geologist, Paul knows the vast economic and mineral security benefits increased mining can provide.  Rep. Gosar is also the Vice-Chairman of the Congressional Western Caucus, an important group that fights for responsible resource development, conservation, and multiple use of federal land and water.

Dr. Gosar has strongly advocated for an all-of-the-above energy strategy. Paul has introduced legislation, the Public Lands Renewable Energy Development Act, that streamlines the permitting process for wind, solar, and geothermal energy development on public lands. The bill also establishes a fair revenue sharing mechanism that allows a portion of rents and royalties to go to the state, to the county of origin, to permit processing, and to sportsmen and conservation purposes which include increasing access for outdoor recreation like hunting and fishing.

Overall, Rep. Gosar has taken the lead on many of the same issues that I championed as Chairman of the Committee and because of that has inherited many of the same opponents who came after me. We desperately need Rep Gosar in the US Congress to protect our rights and to fight for a future for our kids and grandkids!”
